Who's behind Grizzly Cove Digital?

I'm Kaleb Hoppe. I started Grizzly Cove Digital in Priest River, Idaho, in 2026. I build every website, phone system, and chat line we put out, so if you hire us, I'm the one doing the work.

Why I started

I missed my youngest son's first words. I missed his first steps, too. Both happened while I was at work supporting my family, which is what I thought a dad was supposed to be doing.

A lot of firsts went that way. I worked fifty hours a week. I was gone before the sun came up and home in time for a rushed dinner and bedtime, usually too worn out to enjoy either one. The bosses liked to say we were all in the same boat. Maybe we were, but they were up top and I was down below rowing.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for pulling yourself up by your bootstraps. I've been doing it my whole life. But on those long shifts I kept thinking that with technology where it is today, there had to be another way. There had to be a way to take what I know and use it to help people and businesses with something they actually need.

Eventually the math stopped working, in money and in time. So I bet on the thing I'd always been good at.

Growing up with the tech

I was born in '95, so I grew up right alongside the tech. A lot of that came from my grandpa, a Linux nerd who worked as an engineer for the military. He had flight simulators in the house and something always going in his woodworking shop, and he usually had me helping. Between his projects, I was around computers, pro sound gear, and event lighting from a young age.

Game Boys came first, then the PlayStation. When the PS2 came out, we'd drag an old TV onto the front porch and play with the neighborhood kids until dark. On long car trips, that same TV and PS2 rode in the back seat on a power inverter.

Then came MP3 players, and figuring out LimeWire and FrostWire like every kid back then. Then the PSP, then iPods. When iPods started breaking, I ordered screen replacement kits off eBay and taught myself to fix them. That was my first business. After that came video editing software, jailbreaking phones in middle school, and eventually professional DJ and lighting equipment. Somewhere in there I became the family's tech guy. If a grandparent's phone or computer acted up, I got the call.

Building things

I come from a family of business owners. My mom taught manners, ballroom dancing, and job interview skills for over twenty years. My dad ran his own apiary and bottled honey out of a warehouse with a weekend sales crew.

I've worked with my hands most of my life: kayak shop manager as a teenager, welder, wood mill worker, beekeeper next to my dad, and years in estate sales. I built a potato cannon as a kid, and later a furnace to melt aluminum. When aluminum got boring, I ordered parts for a bigger furnace that could run hotter. That turned into Meltdown Metals, my sculptural metal art company. I taught myself to weld and cast metal, built the Shopify store myself, and grew its following past a thousand people.

It's the same way I work now. If I don't know how something works, I figure it out, and then I build what the job needs.

Alicia

Alicia is my light in a dark place, and she's kept me going when things got hard. She cooks incredible meals, bakes her own sourdough bread (plus sourdough cookies, cakes, and whatever she's testing from the recipe book she wrote herself), and keeps me fed through every late-night build. She's an amazing mom to our two boys, 8 and 2, and keeps our home running. A big part of why I do this is so she can stay home with them, even in an economy like this one.

She named the company, too. We love being outside, whether that's hiking, hunting, picking huckleberries, or hunting for morel mushrooms, and "grizzly" felt like home up here. I was reading name ideas out loud one night (Grizzly Pine, Grizzly Forest, a dozen others) when she called out from behind me, "Try Grizzly Cove!" It stuck.

How we work

We're a Christian family, and I try to run this business the way we run our home: honest work, and doing what I said I'd do. The tools I build are meant to be simple and dependable. When something needs fixing, you call me directly.

If you run a small business, you've probably made the same trade I did. Calls come in during dinner, and questions come in during your kid's game. What I build is meant to give some of that time back: a website that sells while you're working, and a phone and chat system that picks up when you can't.
